When to Change Your Brush Head ?

When to Change Your Brush Head ?
Have you ever wondered why it is necessary to throw away your old and used Toothbrushes? Just like most things, brushes or brush heads have a specific lifespan. It is important to abide by that life span and dispose of them after that.

After a certain amount of time, the bristles go through enough attrition that leads them to fray. Though this is not all; brush heads are breeding grounds for all sorts of germs and bacteria even if you are washing them after every use.

How often should you change your manual toothbrush?

When talking about Manual toothbrushes, after a certain amount of usage, you need to change the entire toothbrush. As per the dentists, it is mostly recommended to swap out your old toothbrush for a new one every 3 to 4 months.

It is essential to keep in mind that toothbrushes are most effective when the bristles are in good condition, with the least use-related wear and bacteria accumulation. With this, you can make sure you and your teeth are happy and clean!

How often should you change your brush heads?

Brush heads come into the picture when talking about Electric toothbrushes. In this case, the advantage is that you need to only dispose of the brush head and not the entire toothbrush. This is more economical and eco-friendly than manual toothbrushes!

However, similar to manual toothbrushes, brush heads need to be changed approximately after every 3 months. It is important to ensure that the bristles are still usable and are not too splayed, otherwise, there is a possibility of them hurting your gums or not cleaning your teeth thoroughly!

How will you know that it’s time to change your Brush head?

There are some telltale signs that you must not miss when it comes to changing the brush head of your electric toothbrush.

  • One of the most common signs is frayed and worn-out bristles due to excessive use. Now you definitely do not want to feel uncomfortable during brushing due to splayed and damaged bristles, do you?
  • Another common sign is when your brush head starts emanating a bad smell. This can indicate an over-accumulation of bacteria within the toothbrush head. Continuing to use such brush heads will harbor the risk of introducing harmful bacteria inside your mouth.  Now, this should be an absolute no-no!
  • When your teeth and oral biome are not feeling clean, that should be a sign enough for you to understand that it is time. Such brush heads indicate reduced effectiveness. Oops!
